RobinVac

Digital extraction unit

Innovation and technology can allow us respond to our situations at a tempo never seen before. In the middle of the Covid 19 epidemic, MJID, in collaboration with the team at RobinTech, responded to the acute global need to vaccinate as many people as possible with a fast-track project aimed at harvesting as much vaccine as possible from drug vials. This collaboration resulted in the development of a drug delivery assisting solution that allows for the extraction of 7 doses, instead of the existing 5 doses from a single drug vial. The system is designed to simplify the drug delivery process, making it more accessible and efficient for healthcare workers in areas with limited resources. To achieve this, the device utilizes both 3D printing and smartphone technologies. Overall, this project aims to improve global healthcare by expanding access to vital medical treatments. Fast minds, fast technology, and a focused process can make things happen...fast!

The challenge

To design a vaccination extraction system that utilizes multiple ‘fine-tuned’ procedures, that in combination, can optimize the extraction of doses of vaccine from a vial. This optimization must provide the opportunity to extract 7 doses when ‘traditional’ methods only resulted in 5 doses being extracted.

The solution

Working in close collaboration with the RobinTech team we designed a device solution that controlled the vial position, needle insertion angles and accommodated Smartphone technology to improve visibility of the syringe filling process. The device was designed to utilize relatively small production technologies runs, taking place locally all around the world.

RobinVac is a patent pending system consisting of a digital extraction unit combined with a particular procedure developed to surely extract 7 doses from every vial of Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty ® vaccine.

The procedure used with the extraction unit is very specific, however composed exclusively of well-known and already used pharmaceutical operations.
